CEMA Extends Condolences to Lebanese Canadian Communities

August 10, 2020

The Canadian Ethnic Media Association wishes to extend its deepest concern and condolences to all Lebanese Canadian communities and their extended families in the wake of the horrific explosion affecting many thousands of residents in Beirut.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in support of the recovery efforts can visit the websites of a growing number of Canadian organizations, including the Canadian Red Cross, Islamic Relief of Canada, Doctors Without Borders, Global Medic and UNICEF.

If you wish to contact the International Red Cross, you may use either of these two links:

In addition to many charitable and public service organizations, a number of Lebanese –Canadian business leaders, including Mohammad Fakih of Paramount Fine Foods;  Rola Dagher, President of Cisco Systems Canada, and many others, have formed an organization called Lebanese Canadian Coalition. They have pledged to raise $2.5 million.  The Canadian Government, which has already committed $5 million in humanitarian aid to Lebanon, has announced it will match every donation made by Canadians to its new Lebanon Matching Fund up to a maximum of $2 million.

CEMA supports the principles of Canadian citizenship, multiculturalism and the right of free expression without ethnocentric bias.
