On Sunday, May 7, CEMA board members Elena Zolotko and Alex Gershtein, as well as members Sofia Tovmassian, the publisher of the St. Petersburg Magazine, and Marina Chernova, editor-in-chief of Radio Megapolis, attended Victory Day celebrations at Earl Bales Park in North York, a suburb of Toronto.
Several thousand members of the Russian Diaspora of Toronto took part in the proceedings, bringing with them flowers and portraits of their ancestors, who fought in World War II against Nazi Germany.
The event is called “The Immortal Regiment”. It is a local Russian tradition, which has grown into a global phenomenon.
