U.S. Public Affairs Officer to deliver feature address at CEMA Speakers Series

Hilary Renner, the Public Affairs Officer at the United States Consulate General in Toronto, will be the guest speaker the February 5, 2015 meeting of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association.

Renner assumed her post at the U.S. Consulate General in August 2014. Prior to her present diplomatic posting, she served in Washington where she was the Policy and Coordination Officer for the Bureau of African Affairs. For three years Renner was also the spokesperson for the bureau, which included speaking to the press on behalf of the State Department.

Her responsibilities also included managing a large public affairs team and the overall policy messaging with her public affairs colleagues in embassies and consulates.

Renner joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 2002 and has served in Mexico City, Warsaw, and Bogota. Prior to diplomatic service, she worked in public affairs, technical communications, and water resources management, which included studying water use in desert land environments.

Renner attended university in England, at the Center for Medieval Studies in Oxford, and worked and lived in Nigeria, Chile and Germany. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Djenne, Mali, where met her husband Scott, who is also a diplomat and the new Consular Section chief in Toronto.
