CEMA was among many media organizations honoured by Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath.

Ethnic newspapers, blogs, radio stations and television strengthen cultural communities, says Andrea Horwath, leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party.

Horwath made the comment during the second annual reception in celebration of the province’s diverse ethnic media.

The Ontario NDP leader said: “The work of the ethnic media allows people to engage with the issues that affect them.”

And, “no matter who they are, where they’re from, or what their first language is, has the opportunity to succeed.”

Horwath also said: “It is important to recognize that in many cases your reach extends beyond Ontario’s borders to communities across our country and beyond.”

The NDP leader added that in many cases that reach extends to communities for whom media freedom does not exist.

During the reception a number of awards were presented to members of the ethnic media.
