On a cool Thursday evening on bustling Queen Street in Toronto at the newly opened Pho Vistro restaurant, members of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association undertook a post mortem on the very successful 38th Annual Gala Dinner, held on November 25 at the National Event Venue in Toronto.

More than 250 representatives of the Canadian ethnic media took part in the proceedings, which featured the presentation of the prestigious Sierhey Khmara Ziniak award, given to Sid Akeda, who was honoured for his lifelong dedication to the Japanese Canadian community.

In addition, the Canadian Ethnic Media Directory was unveiled at the successful event. The database provides an overview of ethnic media in radio, print, online, and television across Canada.

One of the highlights of the evening was the entertainment segment, which included Cantemos, a chamber ensemble that specializes in music from Latin America, the acclaimed Wen Zhao, who performed on the pipa, a four -stringed Chinese instrument, Orchestra Biser a Toronto Macedonian band which performed an array of Macedonian, Russian, Turkish, Jewish, Spanish, Italian, and North American tunes, Alexi Couto an up and coming singer/songwriter of Portuguese and Vietnamese descent, and Melissa Gamal, a Toronto based belly dancing instructor and performer.

Pho Vistro is a hit for connoisseurs of haute Vietnamese cuisine and is co-owned by CEMA Past President Dat Nguyen, who along with his helpful staff, helped introduce us to the intricacies of organic Vietnamese cuisine.
