A new member of CEMA says that his first event at the association has expanded his horizons on the active participation of ethnic journalists in the general milieu of the Canadian society.
Admitted as CEMA member recently, Roberto Butch Galicia was referring to the reception hosted by the Ontario Association of Radiologists (OAR) for CEMA in downtown Toronto on September 28, 2006, where the executive officers of OAR called upon members of the ethnic media for assistance on OARs communication needs in the language of their various communities. Galicia said his first participation at a CEMA event reminded him of his days in Berlin in the company of fellow journalists from all over the world, learning new things and working for the betterment of the community.
At the same time, he thanked CEMA for the opportunity and expressed enthusiasm for future events.
The CEMA new member is editor of Manila Media Monitor, a regional community publication aimed at the Filipino-Canadian community in Toronto and its suburbs.
He bringswith him to the publication, to CEMA and the Canadian readers some30 years of journalism experience starting as a reporter in 1972 and becoming editor of the Philippine News Agency. He also worked as editor at various Manila daily newspapers. Galicia is an alumnus of the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin, Germany.
