Ontario’s New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Andrea Horwath recently told a group of ethnic journalists that the ethnic media is crucial to our province.

Speaking at the event, titled “Celebrating Diverse Media”, she said:
“Your work is as important now as it has ever been.”

Howarth told the journalists that despite the media business being tough, the publications serving ethnic communities continue to grow.

“They are thriving in a difficult market,” she said.

The Ontario opposition leader took the opportunity to also draw attention to the recent cuts in ethnic programming at OMNI Television.

Horwath said that she hopes this is a temporary setback.

Speaking to a packed hall at the Karaikudi Restaurant in Scarborough, Ontario, Horwath told members of the ethnic media: “We value you (and) want to build a stronger relationship.”

Other NDP legislators attending the event included MPP Jagmeet Singh, the Deputy House Leader, and Percy Hatfield, the MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh.
