Designed for internationally trained writers and other professionals who wish to upgrade their credentials in order to join the exciting world of Canadian journalism, this program offers students an opportunity to approach journalism from a global perspective.

During this intense three-semester program, participants will adapt and integrate their professional and educational experience to the history, protocols and daily working conditions of writers and journalists working in the mainstream Canadian media. Such courses as “Culture and Protocols of the Canadian Media”, “Colonial and Post-Colonial World Literature”, “Reinventing Your Writing Career in Canada” and “Advanced Writing” are perfect for those students who wish to cover the news in Canada and abroad from a global perspective. Many courses will be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.

UNIQUE LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Field Placement

Students will gain invaluable experience through participating in a field placement during the third semester. Working as reporters, editors, or communications specialists, students will have a wide choice of work placement opportunities in mainstream media organizations.

Times

Classroom sessions will be scheduled at convenient times for those in the workforce. Classes will be held in the late afternoon or early evening or weekends.

Mentoring

Individual students in the program will be assigned a mentor from the faculty or the journalism community to enhance and personalize their educational experience at Sheridan.
