Ontario Media Development Corporation’s president the keynote speaker at CEMA’s May 4 monthly meeting

Karen Thorne-Stone, president and CEO of the Ontario Media Development Corporation will be the featured speaker at the next Canadian Ethnic Media Association’s speaker series. It is being held on Thursday, May 4, at the Rogers Communications Centre, at Ryerson University, starting at 6:45 p.m.

As head of the OMDC, Thorne-Stone works to foster an advantageous business environment, facilitates innovation, supports cross-sector collaboration, enhances and leverages investment, and promotes Ontario as an international centre of excellence.

The OMDC oversees Ontario’s book publishing, film and television, magazine publishing, music and interactive digital media industries, and delivers a wide range of programs and services, including tax credits, investment funds and research initiatives.

Previously, Thorne-Stone worked for the City of Toronto in a variety of senior management positions, including as film commissioner and executive director of economic development.

She was instrumental in the creation and advancement of labour force and strategic plans for key economic clusters, supported successful negotiations for a new state-of-the-art film studio complex and led numerous special projects, including the SARS Economic Recovery Plan and Toronto’s Olympic bid.
