Ethnic media support vital to Type 2 Diabetes Awareness Program

Youth in certain Canadian communities are at high risk of getting Type 2 Diabetes, health professionals, health service Lou Sekolovsky of CEC shows CEMA member Csilla Reszegi Type 2 diabetes info kitvolunteers, community leaders and members of ethnic media were told at a conference on February 23 in Toronto.

CEMA’s executive is urging its members to give wide publicity to this potential hazard and make available contact information for the use of Canada’s ethnic minorities.

At the conference in Toronto organized by the Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC) attendees learned that young people of African, Hispanic, Asian and South Asian origin have an elevated risk of type 2 diabetes compared to the general population. (more…)

Toronto police chief, ethnic media rub shoulders at TO’s copshop

Canada’s World needs your participation

Recently, Canada’s World, a project of Simon Fraser University, released the results of its first poll on Canadians’ attitudes to foreign policy. The poll was conducted by Environics Research Group.

The poll revealed that we feel as much citizens of thr world as Canadians. Although proud of our military history, we’re looking for a new kind of “heroism” — taking the lead on international environmental issues, confronting human rights abuses and fighting hunger and poverty in the developing world. Ziniak, Tokmakov win Russian Business Association Awards

Madeline Ziniak gets Russian Org awardCEMA Chair Madeline Ziniak was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Russian Canadian Business Association’s annual gala on Jan. 12, 2008. Member Valery Tokmakov received the Community Achievement Award.

The lavish evening, which featured a gourmet dinner, Russian entertainment including opera singers, dancers and instrumentalists and an ocean of greyGoose vodka, honoured seven prominent members of the community. All present were lavish in their praise of RCBA president Maia Masgter for her brilliant staging of the evening. (more…)
