Study explores media use among

growing ethnic audiences

TORONTO (March 16, 2006) As Canadas population becomes more diverse, traditional media measurement tools are becoming inadequate in their ability to provide an accurate read of audiences, according to a new study by Solutions Research Group, a Toronto-based market research firm.

Solutions Research Group The study, the first of its kind in Canada, examines six major population groups in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, including Canadians of Chinese, South Asian, West Asian, Hispanic and Italian backgrounds, as well as Black Canadians. Among the findings:

One of our liveliest discussions — this topic on the publishing of the cartoons in Denmark’s daily, the Jyllands-Posten, fired the indignation of our members on March 2. The meeting was held in conjunction with PEN’s Exiled Writer’s program, followed by a Q&A. The two presenters were Aaron Berhane, editor of Meftih (an Eritrean-Candian newspaper) and Zuhair (Kash) Kashmeri (editior, writer and OMNI – TV Commentator).Were you present? Change of name to Canadian Ethnic Media Association

Dear Fellow Member:

The Canadian Ethnic Journalists and Writers Club was founded 28 years ago by Sierhey Khmara Ziniak because the existing organization represented solely publishers of ethnic print media. Yet ethnic media already embraced radio and major ethnic television was not far off. (more…)

May we respectfully remind those few members who have not yet paid their 2006 dues that as of March 31, their names will no longer be listed on our members register and they will not be mailed ID cards for 2006 unless dues have been paid.

Also coming up in April and May two special hospitality events co-hosted by CEMA and important organiztions who wish to reach ethnic media: available to members in good standing only.
